I am spending a rainy windy day in my apartment in Acadia National Park. This is the first day I've just gotten back to some of those personal, internal intellectual activities I am so into in the winter: blogging, posting to favorite online groups about trees and forests, reading.

I would like to invite the Primal Forest Network members to follow a blog that I write, from which I have drawn some of the material I have in my blog here. It is largely reflections on my experiences in exploring and reflecting on forests, tree and nature, in my life of exploring wild New England and also in my work as an ecologist. It does veer off into other topics as well, and is a personal, diary type blog.

This spring, after a challenging time of looking for good work in the worst economy imaginable, I was so very fortunate to obtain my dream job. Of all that I applied for, this was the one I wanted. I am an ecologist, and my heart and soul as well as my intellect are passionately involved in trying to save our forests in the face of endless threats. So now, I am employed as the one primarily responsible for managing the health of plants in Acadia National Park. How great is that??

Well the last few days have been spent in the aftermath of an ice storm: beautiful, glowing exquisite crystalline scenes rarely offered. I should probably describe the days more completely as beautiful, dark, brilliant, cold and quiet: the power went off for several days.
